"ALIEN:ROMULUS" It's not what I thought it was.

I went to the movies today to watch the new addition to the Alien franchise, "ALIEN:ROMULUS". I went under the assumption that it was the sequel to "PROMETHEUS". Boy was I wrong, well, kinda sorta.

Romulus, the 9th installment to the Alien franchise is not the continued plot to Prometheus. It does however stay true to the franchises original style of movie making. The movie starts off by introducing you to a group of young friends seeking a better life on another planet. Before embarking on their journey they must first commandeer an abandoned ship(ROMULUS), in order to steal fuel which will allow them to complete the journey to a new world. When they board Romulus, it isn't long before they encounter the Xenomorph and things start to get interesting.

The storyline unfolds in typical "Alien" fashion. I almost felt like I was watching the original with Sigourney Weaver as "Ellen Ripley", except this time the ass kicking, brave heroine is played by Cailee Spaeny as "Rain", accompanied by the helpful and knowledgeable android "Andy" played by David Jonsson. I give the movie a solid 7.5 out of 10. If killer aliens and sci-fi are your thing, I recommend you go see it.

For all the die hard Alien fans, the movies in chronological order go as follows, I don't really count the first 2 since they are different from all the rest but a timeline is a timeline...

  1. Alien vs Predator(2004) setting/2004 - Dir. by Paul W.S. Anderson

  2. Alien vs Predator: Requiem(2007) setting/2004 - Dir. by Colin & Greg Strause

  3. Prometheus(2012) setting/2093 - Dir. by Ridley Scott

  4. Alien: Covenant(2017) setting/2104 - Dir. by Ridley Scott

  5. Alien(1979) setting/2122 - Dir. by Ridley Scott

  6. Alien: Romulus(2024) setting/2142 - Dir. by Fede Alvarez

  7. Aliens(1986) setting/2179 - Dir. by James Cameron

  8. Alien3(1992) setting/2179 - Dir. by David Fincher

  9. Alien Resurrection(1997) setting/2381 - Dir. by Jean Pierre Jeunet
